Sony to bring back rumble to the PS3 controllers!

Who else is missing that rumble while they are gaming? I definitely am.

At last week’s Tokyo Game Show Sony announced plans to release the DualShock 3 Controller. This new controller will include the loved “rumble” feature.

The DualShock3 boasts the “Sixaxis” design of the controller which is currently available for the PS3. “Sixaxis” is, surprise, a six-axis system that lets players have more choice and feel in their maneuvers while gaming on the PS3. This is done by tilting their controller in addition to using the controller’s buttons, arrow buttons, and the memorable thumb sticks. The gaming controller works wirelessly, using a long lasting rechargeable battery that recharges when you connect it to the PS3 using a USB wire. (Any standard USB wire will work if you lose it)

Since Sony released the PS3 in 2006, the controller given with the console itself lacked the “rumble” feature of the PS2 which enables players to experience force feedback in games. This was a large disappointment to myself as I was expecting to see it, since the PS2 had it.

In March 2007, Sony settled a rather quiet Lawsuit with Immersion, the company that developed game controller force feedback technology, letting Sony reintroduce a controller that features rumble effects, adding more feel to the PS3 gaming experience.

Sony has already announced a list of a few games compatible with the DualShock3 controller. This list includes but is not limited to The Darkness, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Burnout Paradise, Rage, MotorStorm, Unreal Tournament 3. Sony also stated that many games will add the capability using a software update (patch) through the infamous PlayStation Network, which PS3 users can access for free as long as they register.

But there are bad news for buyers who haven’t already bought a PS3. The downside is that the DualShock3 will be sold as a separate gaming accessory. No decision as of yet has been made to pack the controller with the PS3 itself, according to a Sony official.
