Alienware – For Ultimate Gaming Performance
|
|
Alienware as a brand is often featured in computer gaming magazines and websites, and is now well known for its bespoke and immensely powerful gaming Pc's and even gaming laptops. It is marketed at die-hard PC gamers, and users who require the ultimate performance computers, and it has a reputation for being the best at what it does. |
I noticed when looking at other reviews of alienware.co.uk that a lot of people have had tech support problems and breakdown problems with their Pc's. Importantly i would like to say straight away that my PC has been perfect for over 12 months now, and I also know others with both notebooks and desktops that have also performed flawlessly for 12 months+. So therefore, absolutely no problems here so far (touch wood.) So I cannot comment on customer service, but I suppose that is a good thing, and hopefully I will never need to.
On a side note, I generally have a history of stuff malfunctioning on me, or more likely me breaking it, products I have had to get fixed are xbox, xbox360 (already ), laptop, and digital camera's, so just to illustrate I am not exactly a careful operator, but still no problems here at all.
Once you choose what style PC you want, you can customise that PC to your exact specification, choosing from ONLY THE BEST parts to make up your dream PC. You can select your processor, ram and graphics processor's (all very important for games, and yes, alienware do offer dual graphics processors with PCI support for ultimate performance... and cost)
You can also select less important elements of your PC including sound cards and hard-drives, both size and speed (in RPM) or your HD can be selected.
--Alienware Cases:
The alienware computer cases are what Alienware are famous
for. To put it simply, they are actually out of this world.
With crazy neon LED lights all over, huge air vents for
ultimate cooling, about 9 cooling fans all over the case,
they are gigantic in size, and fairly noisy too, (I like to
think of myself as normal, but I definitely cant sleep with
it on in my room at night, because of the crazy lights and
buzzing sounds it emits)
The cases, designed probably on an Alien spaceship, feature the ultra cool Alien-head logo on the front and both sides. As a nice extra feature, alienware cases come with a (sadly universal) key that allows you to lock your case both from the side to protect its internal components and also the front so it cannot be turn on/off without the key (if you decide to use it)
Even though this seems pointless I'm informed actually it isn't, infact it is designed to prevent theft of pc components, e.g.. Ram at LAN parties where you bring your PC to a designated location with many other gamers. however, because alienwares are now so popular among the sort of people you find at these events everyone has an identical key, theft is actually made easier as you don't even need a screwdrivers to take off the side of someone's desktop and rob it on its RAM modules. Not so cool then!
I bought mine in a crazy "cyborg green" colour case, but other vibrant colour cases, and matching keyboards and mice are available in colours such as "Martian red" and "saucer silver"
--Don't fear if you aren't a PC wizard:
Fortunately for the less-technical minded folks, alienware's
website offers a very useful "jargon buster" and any
technical aspects of the PC are explained, and their
importance is highlighted so you can comfortably customise
your PC, even if you don't really have a clue what your
buying!
Importantly, remember to use alienware.co.uk rather than .com even when just scouting around looking for potential pc's to buy, because I found some products on .com aren't available in the UK.
--Technical(ish) Stuff:
|
-Size: |
Huge! both laptops and desktops are gigantic |
|
-Speeds: |
As alienwares massive trophy cabinet full of amazing reviews and awards suggests, these PC's are seriously powerful. |
|
-Price: |
Generally pretty expensive, especially compared to Dell etc, however they do deals and backback on purchases regularly, so keep an eye on their offers for the best possible deal. |
|
-Customer Service: |
Cant personally comment, although the
warranty's etc offered look very comprehensive. "This is the fastest machine we've ever seen" bit-tech.net 2006. |
|
-Conclusion:: |
My pc although 12 months old is still ridiculously fast, and
i am not even considering replacing it yet (in past
experience, normal PC's normally start to get a little
sluggish at around this age) So value for money can be expected. |
Overall, if you need THE BEST and can afford it, you want one of these ! If you can live without having the fastest PC on the market, www.dell.com is all I can say.
People do moan about their outrageous styling, however bear in mind you can turn off all the LED's and choose for a more respectable case if you are over 16 and have an image to uphold.
A further pointer, if you do have budget issues but really want to go alienware, and I don't blame you, when you customise your PC it is advisable to (even with performance in mind) chose the second best options for processor and memory, and a nearly "perfect" machine barely less powerful than the top spec, will cost hundreds of pounds less.
